Gay Barcelona: LGBTQ+ Clubs and Bars in the Gaixample and Beyond

· Updated:

Barcelona's LGBTQ+ nightlife is centred on the Gaixample, the part of the Eixample around Carrer de Balmes, Villarroel and Muntaner, with Believe's drag shows every night, Strass and a run of bars; Arena Experience opens every night near Urquinaona and Safari runs YASS! on Saturdays, according to the venues' own Instagram accounts on 21 October 2026.

Gaixample is a local nickname, a mix of gay and Eixample, for a few blocks of the Eixample Esquerra. It's not a ghetto: the bars sit between ordinary flats and shops, and the clubs are spread over a wider area. A night usually starts with drinks in the Muntaner bars, carries on with a show at Believe or Strass and ends at Arena or Safari. Some guides still list places that have closed, so below we only include venues with activity in 2026.

Arena Experience: the big club, every night

Arena Experience, at Ronda de Sant Pere 21 next to Urquinaona, calls itself an iconic LGTBIQA+ nightclub and opens every night from 00:30 until 05:00 or 06:00. Time Out describes it as the biggest LGBTQ+ club in the city and notes that the flyers handed out in Gaixample bars give free entry. It belongs to Grupo Arena, whose Instagram also lists Safari, the Punto bar and the Aire and DMENS brands. If you're out on a Monday or Tuesday, this is the one that's open.

Safari and YASS! on Saturdays

Safari Disco Club, at Carrer de Tarragona 141 by the Tarragona Metro stop, opens on Friday and Saturday nights from 00:30 to 05:00 or 06:00. Saturday is YASS!, a party with its own following: pop and urban music in the main room and house in the second. Safari also hosts other parties, like Bananas and Pop Air. It's a bit away from the Gaixample, near Sants, so most people arrive by Metro or taxi.

Drag in the Gaixample: Believe and Strass

Believe, at Carrer de Balmes 56, presents itself as the Barcelona drag club, with shows every night; Time Out counts more than 15 drag queens on its roster. It opens from 23:00 to 05:00 from Sunday to Thursday and from midnight to 06:00 on Fridays, Saturdays and nights before holidays, which makes it one of the few places in town with a show on a Monday. The same group runs bars like Priscilla Café, La Carrà, Titanic and Fever. A few blocks away, Strass, at Carrer de Villarroel 68 on the corner of Diputació, is a bar with drag queen shows. Also near Universitat, Candy Darling, a queer bar-club on Gran Via that Time Out still lists in 2026, mixes DJs, drag and live acts.

The bars on Muntaner

Carrer de Muntaner, between Gran Via and Diputació, is where the night usually starts. Punto BCN, at number 65, is a bar from the Arena group that mentions invitations to Arena and Safari in its bio. Fever Barcelona, at number 69, opens as a bar from 18:00 to 03:00. These are bars, not clubs, so drinks and conversation first and dancing later.

Moving between venues and getting home

The Gaixample bars and Believe and Strass are within walking distance of each other. Arena Experience is by Urquinaona and Safari by the Tarragona Metro stop, so the jump from one to the other is easiest by Metro or taxi. Plan the way back by day: on Fridays the Metro runs until 02:00 and on Saturdays all night, while from Sunday to Thursday it closes at midnight and you'll need the NitBus, which runs from 22:30 to 06:00 every 20 minutes and almost always passes through Plaça de Catalunya, the hub for changing lines.

Still on Google, but closed

Some names still come up in searches and old guides. Arena Madre, at Carrer de Balmes 32, is marked as closed by Time Out, and it no longer appears among the Arena group's venues. Arena Classic, on Carrer de la Diputació, isn't in the group's list either and we found no activity in 2026. We'd rather leave them out than send you to a closed door.

Summer and Pride

In summer part of the scene moves to the beach. Time Out calls the Chiringuito de la Mar Bella the oldest gay beach bar in Barcelona, with parties in the warm months; the city's beach bars closed their 2026 season on 4 October. Pride is the big date of the year: in 2026 the parade was on Saturday 18 July, and the 2027 dates had not been announced as of 21 October 2026.

Safe spaces in the rest of the city

Catalan law forbids clubs from refusing entry on grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity (Decree 112/2010, article 50). Some mainstream venues go further: Sala Apolo, in Poble-sec, has a Lila Point run by the Observatori contra la LGTBIfòbia on club nights from Wednesday to Sunday and follows the City Council's No Callem protocol against sexual harassment.
