Barcelona Club Age Limits: What the Law Says and What Each Club Asks

· Updated:

In Catalonia under-16s can't get into clubs, dance halls or music bars (Decree 112/2010, article 53.2); above that, each club sets its own age. In October 2026 most clubs in Barcelona, Spain were 18+, some nights asked for 20, 21, 23 or even 25, and a few venues outside the city ran 16+ nights.

The confusion comes from mixing two things: what the law forbids and what each club decides. The law is Decree 112/2010, of 31 August, the Catalan regulation on public shows and recreational activities, which we read in the Generalitat's legal portal. Each club then adds its own conditions through the right of admission. Below, first the law and then the table by club.

Quick answer: what the law says

Under 16: the legal limit

Article 53.2 is clear: under-16s can't enter clubs, party halls, dance halls, music bars, concert halls, café-concerts or café-theatres. The only exception is a live performance with a parent or guardian, and they have to leave when it ends. That's why concert venues set their own rules for gigs: Sala Apolo, for example, sets 16 as the minimum for concerts and asks younger fans to come with an adult and a signed authorisation, while its club sessions from midnight are 18+.

16 and 17: what the law allows and what exists

Article 53 doesn't list clubs among the places closed to 16- and 17-year-olds; that's our reading of the text, not legal advice. When minors are present, the venue still has to apply the rules on health protection, gaming machines, hours for minors and child protection (article 53.3). In practice, almost every club in Barcelona sets 18+ on its own. The exceptions we've found are specific nights outside the city: Teatre, in Sant Cugat del Vallès, presents itself as a 16+ night every Friday, and Titus Carpa, in Badalona, runs Nits al Temple for 16+ on Fridays. We mention them so you know they exist, not as a recommendation. Youth discos for 14 and 15-year-olds are a separate category and can only open from 17:00 to 22:00.

The age is set per night, not per club. The same venue can be 18+ on Thursday and 21+ on Saturday, and special dates like Halloween or New Year's Eve often go up. One more nuance: Duvet, on Carrer de Còrsega, describes its Saturday crowd as 40+, but that's the atmosphere it aims for, not a minimum age.

Why some clubs ask for 21 or 23

Articles 50 and 51 of the decree let the owner set admission conditions, as long as they are specific, objective and not arbitrary, and never discriminate by birth, race, sex, religion, opinion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or any other personal condition. Those conditions must be on a sign at the entrance and at the ticket office, at least 30 by 20 centimetres, visible from outside and stamped by the authorities (annex IV). A higher minimum age is one of those conditions. If you think the door applied them unfairly, article 54 lets you file a complaint.

Afters and youth discos: the two special cases

Two categories have their own age rule. Special-regime venues, the legal name for afters, can open from 07:00 to 14:00 under Order INT/358/2011, and nobody under 18 can enter them, whatever the night. Youth discos work the other way round: they are the only clubs open to 14 and 15-year-olds, they can't open beyond 22:00, and under-14s can't go in. We haven't found a public list of which venues in Barcelona hold either licence, so we don't name any. If a party sells itself as an after or as an afternoon session for teenagers, check that the venue says so on its own channels.

Bring the right ID

Every club checks age at the door, and the rule is an original, valid document with a photo. Razzmatazz accepts a DNI, passport or driving licence; La Terrrazza adds the NIE; Twenties accepts a DNI, NIE or passport and turns away photos, copies and any non-original reproduction. If you're visiting Barcelona, carry your passport or your national ID card: a photo on your phone won't get you in.

Frequently asked questions

Can under-18s get into clubs in Barcelona?

The law only bars under-16s from clubs, dance halls and music bars (Decree 112/2010, article 53.2). In practice almost every club sets 18+ as its own admission rule, so for 16- and 17-year-olds the options are a few specific 16+ nights.

Which clubs run 16+ nights?

Teatre in Sant Cugat del Vallès bills itself as a 16+ night every Friday, and Titus Carpa in Badalona has its Friday Nits al Temple for 16+. We list them for information; both are outside the city of Barcelona.

Why do some clubs ask for 21 or 23?

Because the law lets each club set its own admission conditions, as long as they are objective, not discriminatory and shown on a stamped sign at the entrance (articles 50 and 51). Costa Breve is 21+ on Fridays and Saturdays, and in Halloween 2026 some parties in the Zona Alta were 23+.

What ID should I bring?

An original, valid document with a photo. Razzmatazz accepts a DNI, passport or driving licence; Twenties asks for a DNI, NIE or passport and doesn't accept photos or copies. If you're visiting, your passport or national ID card is the safe choice.

Can I go to a concert at 16?

At Sala Apolo, yes: the minimum for concerts is 16, and younger fans need an adult and a signed authorisation. Club sessions after midnight are 18+. Other venues set their own age per concert, so check the event.
