Barcelona Club Opening Hours: What Time Clubs Open and Close (2026)
· Updated:
In Barcelona, nightclubs may open from 17:00 to 05:00, and until 06:00 on Friday and Saturday nights and nights before public holidays; music bars may stay open until 02:30 (03:00 at weekends), under Catalonia's Order INT/358/2011 (DOGC no. 6030).
The rule is the same across Catalonia, so it applies in L'Hospitalet, CornellĂ or Sant Cugat too. The full name is Order INT/358/2011, of 19 December, published in the DOGC on 22 December 2011 and in force; the consolidated text is on the Portal JurĂdic de Catalunya (portaljuridic.gencat.cat/eli/es-ct/o/2011/12/19/int358). These are maximums: each club can close earlier, and the hours it publishes are the ones that count.
Closing times by type of venue
| Type of venue | Opens from | Closes at | Fri, Sat and eves of holidays | Article |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nightclub, dance hall, party hall with show | 17:00 | 05:00 | 06:00 | 4.c |
| Music bar | 12:00 | 02:30 | 03:00 | 4.a |
| Music restaurant | 06:00 | 02:30 | 03:00 | 4.b |
| Concert hall, café-theatre, café-concert | 17:00 | 04:30 | 05:00 | 4.d |
| Youth disco (no under-14s) | 17:00 | 22:00 | 22:00 | 4.e |
| Special-regime venue (after-hours) | 07:00 | 14:00 | 14:00 | 4.h |
| Bar, restaurant | 06:00 | 02:30 | 03:00 | 5 |
Summer, Christmas, Carnival and Holy Week
Article 7 adds 45 minutes for nightclubs (30 for music bars, bars and concert halls) in these periods: Thursday to Monday of Holy Week, Thursday to Tuesday of Carnival, 21 December to 6 January (except New Year's Eve), 1 June to 15 September, local festivities, and up to six days a year for fairs or events declared of tourist interest. The extra time adds to the general hours, so on a Friday or Saturday in summer a club can stay open until 06:45.
New Year's Eve: until 07:30
Article 6 gives nightclubs 90 extra minutes on New Year's Eve, and 60 to the rest of venues. In 2026, 31 December is a Thursday and the eve of a holiday, so 05:00 plus one hour plus 90 minutes makes 07:30, which matches what the Catalan press reported in previous years.
New Year's Eve 2026 parties in Barcelona →What it means on specific dates
| Night | Legal limit for nightclubs | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A Thursday in October | 05:00 | General hours (art. 4) |
| A Friday or Saturday in October | 06:00 | +1 h on Fri, Sat and eves of holidays (art. 4) |
| Halloween, Sat 31 Oct 2026 | 06:00 | Saturday; not a special period |
| Sun 1 Nov 2026 | 05:00 | Monday 2 is not a holiday in Catalonia |
| A Saturday in July | 06:45 | Summer extension, 1 Jun to 15 Sep (art. 7) |
| Thu 31 Dec 2026 | 07:30 | Eve of a holiday + New Year's Eve (arts. 4 and 6) |
Local festivities add another 45 minutes, which is why La Mercè, Barcelona's main festival in late September, can mean later closing; those extensions can't be stacked on top of the summer, Christmas, Carnival or Holy Week ones, nor on New Year's Eve (art. 7.1.e).
At closing time, terraces and afters
At closing time no one else gets in, the bar stops serving, the music goes off and the lights come on; customers have 30 minutes to leave, or 45 in venues for more than 500 people (art. 10). Terraces follow the hours of the venue they belong to, unless a municipal bylaw is stricter (art. 11); Barcelona's own terrace bylaw is not covered here. The Directorate-General can grant a venue an exceptional extension at its owner's request, with a binding report from the city council (art. 12).
Afters exist as a legal category: special-regime venues may open from 07:00 to 14:00 (art. 4.h), and Decree 112/2010 (art. 53.2) bars under-18s from them. We have no source on which Barcelona venues hold that licence, so we don't name any. Remember too that under-16s cannot enter nightclubs, music bars or concert halls under the same decree.
