What Sala Taro Is Like: Sants' Eclectic Club, Heir to Koitton

· Updated:

Sala Taro is a small concert venue and club at Carrer de Rossend Arús 9, in the Sants district of Barcelona, Spain, in the space that used to be Koitton. It calls itself a “multicultural space” (“espai pluricultural”) and mixes gigs and DJ nights that range from experimental electronic music to punk, indie and Latin sounds.

From Koitton to Taro

If you went out in Sants a few years ago, you will remember Koitton. Time Out already called Taro “heredera de la mítica Koitton”, heir to the legendary Koitton, in 2020, and its October 2026 guide to the best clubs in Barcelona still places it in the old Koitton premises. Neither source gives the exact date of the change, so we will not either. What matters is that the room kept its role as a night out in Sants, a neighbourhood Time Out described as “un barrio al alza”, on the rise, for nightlife.

The music: no single genre

Time Out sums up the programming as “desde la electrónica más experimental, hasta el punk más femio, el indie de toda la vida y los sonidos latinos”: from the most experimental electronic music to punk, classic indie and Latin sounds, with some of the most interesting and transgressive gigs in the city. Taro's own posts describe its weeks the same way: a variety of proposals that turns “our holy house” into a nest of eclecticism. In October 2026 that meant guests like Mr. Funghi, a Berlin-based DJ, producer and curator known for eclectic, emotional sets, and Laia Biosca, trained in classical piano, who started DJing in 2022.

What a night is like

Taro is small, so do not expect a big club with VIP tables and a dress code. It is closer to a neighbourhood venue with a curious crowd: a gig early on, then DJs. Its motto, quoted by Time Out, says a lot about the tone: “No olvides volver a casa”, don't forget to go home. In autumn the venue calls itself a refuge from the rain and the cold, with weeks full of plans from Wednesday on. Each event sets its own start time, price and age.

Part of the alternative circuit

Taro belongs to the same family as Sala Upload, in the Poble Espanyol, and Sala VOL, in Poblenou: small rooms that programme outside the commercial circuit, where a gig and a DJ set share the same night and the line-up matters more than the name of the party. If one of them is your kind of place, the other two probably are as well, and none of them is the Port Olímpic.

Age, hours and getting home

Sala Taro does not publish a general minimum age or closing time. Catalan law keeps under-16s out of clubs and concert venues unless it is a live show and they come with a parent or guardian, and the general closing limit for clubs is 5am, or 6am on Fridays, Saturdays and the night before a holiday. Going home from Sants, the metro runs all night only from Saturday to Sunday; on Fridays until about 2am, other nights until midnight, and the NitBus covers the rest every 20 minutes.
