What Jamboree Is Like: Jazz Gigs and a Late-Night Club in Plaça Reial

· Updated:

Jamboree is a jazz club in Plaça Reial 17, in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter, open since 1960, that does two things every night: concerts at 7pm and 8:30pm and, from midnight, a hip hop, R&B and dancehall club until 5am or 6am. The club side is 18+ and in October 2026 cost €12 to €15.

A jazz cellar with history

Jamboree's story starts in early 1960, when businessman Joan Rosselló turned a bar called Brindis, at Plaça Reial 17, into a jazz cellar; the critic Javier Coma suggested the name. Chet Baker, Stéphane Grappelli, Ornette Coleman and Dexter Gordon played there, and the Catalan pianist Tete Montoliu was a regular. In 1966 the club was behind Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington playing the Palau de la Música, and years later Brad Mehldau recorded one of his early albums in the cellar. It reopened as a jazz club in 1992, has been run by the Mas i Mas group since 1993 and came back for good in 2021 after the long pandemic closure. Its bio calls it 'the most legendary music club in Barcelona'; that's its own line, but few venues in the city can match its history.

The gigs: two shows a night

The live music runs early. Most nights there are two shows, at 19:00 and 20:30, in Sala 1, and some nights a second concert in Sala 3. In October 2026 tickets cost €18 to €25 and several shows sold out ahead of time, so book early if you have a band in mind. That month Jamboree was also a venue of the 60th Barcelona Jazz Festival, and its programme mixed jazz trios, jam sessions and soul and gospel nights. Concerts are a calmer affair than the club; it's a different crowd from the one that arrives after midnight.

The club after midnight

At 23:59 the cellar becomes a club. In the week of 21 October 2026 Wednesday ran in Sala 1 only until 05:00, and from Thursday to Saturday two rooms were open, until 06:00 at the weekend. The club describes the music as 'hip hop, R&B, dancehall and more'; Time Out adds that the first room goes for urban, R&B and trap and the second for pop and hits. Entry was €12 on Wednesday and €15 from Thursday to Saturday, and that week all four nights were marked sold out online. It's 18+ for every club night. It also appears on international party listings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays, with a free list until 01:30, which is why you'll hear a lot of languages in the queue.

Age and dress code

The club is 18+, so bring a passport or ID. Concerts are different: Catalan law lets under-16s attend live shows with a parent or guardian, as long as they leave when the show ends (Decree 112/2010, art. 53). Jamboree doesn't publish a dress code; for the club, casual but tidy is fine.

Plaça Reial at night

Plaça Reial has changed in 2026. Karma, the rock club that opened in 1978, announced its closure on 12 March, and Sidecar had closed shortly before. Jamboree remains the square's music club, with the bar Ocaña nearby. Marula is a short walk away on Carrer dels Escudellers, Macarena is in the Gòtic and Colors is on La Rambla, so the area still works for a night on foot.

Getting home

Walk up La Rambla to Plaça de Catalunya, where almost every night bus stops; the NitBus runs every 20 minutes from 22:30 to 06:00. The metro runs all night on Saturdays and until 2am on Fridays, and closes around midnight the rest of the week (AMB, TMB).
