What Macarena Club Is Like: The 80-Person Club in the Gothic Quarter
· Updated:
Macarena Club is a tiny electronic music club at Carrer Nou de Sant Francesc 5, in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, Spain, with room for about 80 people around a DJ booth in the middle of the floor. It plays techno and house and is open every night of the week; it says it has been doing it since 2001.

A room built around the DJ
The first thing you notice at Macarena is that there is no stage and no corner for the DJ: the booth sits in the centre and the crowd dances around it. Resident Advisor lists the capacity at 80 and highlights the Funktion-One sound system in a very small room, and Time Out describes exactly that: around 80 people around the DJ. The club calls itself the basement, and in a space this size every set feels close. It is the opposite of a big night out on the waterfront, and that is why people seek it out: Time Out's October 2026 list of the 20 best clubs in Barcelona includes it alongside rooms many times its size, which says a lot for an 80-person basement.
Seven nights a week, since 2001
Macarena's bio reads “Music is the key. Barcelona, since 2001” and “Open every night”, and in September 2026 it celebrated “a quarter century” on Instagram. Time Out gives a different year, 2011; we go with the date the club itself publishes. Its weekly posts follow the same idea: “Another week. Seven nights. Your move.” Each Monday it publishes the schedule for the week and asks followers which night they are coming. The music, according to RA, is techno, house and club music, with residents and guests; in October 2026 it also launched a new monthly residency, with its first night on 1 October.

Queues, crowd and the door
With 80 people inside, the maths is simple: on weekends there is usually a queue, as Time Out warns. Time Out describes a young, eclectic crowd. If you want to be sure of getting in on a Friday or Saturday, sort it out before you go instead of trusting the door, or try a weeknight to skip the weekend queue. Macarena does not publish a dress code or a minimum age. Under Catalan law under-16s cannot enter clubs, and the venue can set its own conditions at the door, so bring ID.
Combining it with other clubs
Macarena is part of a little cluster of electronic clubs in the old town: Moog and Les Enfants Brillants are across La Rambla in the Raval. All three are small and specialised, very different from the big commercial clubs. Getting home, the metro runs all night only from Saturday to Sunday; on other nights the last trains leave at midnight, or 2am on Fridays, and then it is the NitBus, almost every line through plaça de Catalunya, or a taxi.
