What Magic Rock Club Is Like: Rock, Indie and Grunge in the Born
· Updated:
Magic Rock Club is a rock club and concert room at Passeig de Picasso 40, in Barcelona's Born, open since the 1970s ('since 1972', it says). From Thursday to Saturday it plays indie, grunge, soul and classic rock until 5am or 6am, with free entry on Thursdays and some Saturday afternoon parties.

Magic sells itself with three lines: 'concert hall and club', 'rocking since 1972' and 'the last rock club left in BCN'. The last one is its own claim, but 2026 gave it weight: Karma, the Plaça Reial club that was one of the city's rock institutions, announced its closure in March. Its website calls Magic 'the rock club par excellence in Barcelona' and says it opened in the 70s. It's a concert room and a club in one, with DJs who play guitars all night. The crowd is, in the club's own words, 'ageless': students next to people who've been coming for decades.

Thursday to Saturday: what plays each night
Each night has its own flavour, and the club's October 2026 posts spell it out. Thursday, from 23:00 to 05:00, is 'Soul & Grunge Hits' with DJ Waaax: indie, pop, rock and soul, with free entry all night. Friday, from 23:00 to 06:00, is 'Indie Rock Night' with DJ Glass Hat: rock, pop, grunge and indie. Saturday goes heavier: rock, blues, country, glam and heavy. Some Saturdays start in the afternoon: on 24 October 2026 the 'Bizarre Love Tarde·O' ran from 18:00 and then rolled into the rock night until 06:00.
Concerts and Halloween
Magic is also a live room, and it invites bands to send proposals. For Halloween 2026 it planned a double bill on Saturday 31 October: a 'Jalloween' afternoon (yes, with a J) with a guest DJ, followed from midnight by 'Magic Halloween' with its resident DJ.
Entry, age and dress code
Thursdays are free all night. For Fridays and Saturdays the club doesn't publish a fixed price, but it has a guest list for groups that skips the queue and gives a discount on entry. It doesn't publish a minimum age either; Catalan law keeps under-16s out of clubs (Decree 112/2010, art. 53) and each venue can set a higher age, so bring ID. No dress code: band T-shirts are the uniform.
Magic and the rest of rock in Barcelona
With Karma gone, the rock options are spread out. Sala Plataforma, in Poble-sec, plays 'hits, rock and remember' from Thursday to Saturday. Upload, in the Poble Espanyol, books punk, garage and rock gigs. Lennon's Club, in L'Hospitalet, calls itself an 'alternative night club and concerts since 1981'. Magic is the one in the centre, and the only one of them built entirely around a rock dance floor.
Getting home
The Born is central, so you can walk to Plaça de Catalunya, where almost every NitBus line stops; night buses run every 20 minutes from 22:30 to 06:00. The metro runs all night on Saturdays and until 2am on Fridays, and closes around midnight on Thursdays (AMB, TMB).
Who it's for
Magic is for anyone who'd rather hear guitars than reggaeton: rock and indie fans, people who miss Karma, and visitors who want a no-frills night in the Born that doesn't cost much on a Thursday.
