What Sala VOL Is Like: Poblenou's DIY Gig Room Next to Razzmatazz

· Updated:

Sala VOL is a small concert venue at Carrer de Sancho d'Àvila 78, in the Poblenou area of Barcelona, Spain, run by the cooperative L'Afluent: mostly gigs, plus DJ sets and the odd unusual night, with tickets usually between €5 and €20. It is a couple of minutes from Razzmatazz and a common stop after a gig there.

A cooperative with a DIY spirit

VOL is not a nightclub in the usual sense, and it does not pretend to be. Its website explains that its artistic direction always looks for music “fora del circuit més comercial”, outside the most commercial circuit, under a code of respect and equality and with the idea of art as a tool for social change. Its Instagram bio simply says it is a project of L'Afluent. Time Out describes a venue with a strong DIY spirit that also hosts talks, presentations and other cultural events, with punk, indie and urban music on the bill.

What is on: gigs, DJs and the unexpected

Most nights are gigs on a small 5 x 4 metre stage. October 2026 is a good sample: ethereal rap from China with Jackzebra, a Wednesday of folk with My Name is Nobody and Defensa Lenta, and a week of guitars with Mourn on Thursday 22 October. Around that, the agenda also lists DJ sets, a festival, a benefit concert, an open rehearsal, a roller derby night and even a Christmas karaoke. In September VOL celebrated its anniversary over more than one night; the second opened with bd.grupo, which the venue described as white light and dragging guitars. That is the tone of the place: small, a little raw and run by people who clearly care about what goes on stage.

Early starts, not a 6am club

This is the key thing to know before you go: events at VOL start early, usually between 6:30pm and 8:30pm, so it is an evening plan, not a place to arrive at 2am. That is exactly why it works so well with Poblenou's bigger rooms: a gig at VOL, then Razzmatazz or Wolf, both on Carrer dels Almogàvers, for the club. Time Out says VOL is also a common after-gig spot for people coming out of Razzmatazz.

Age and getting home

Unlike most clubs, VOL has a minors policy: its website provides an authorisation document for under-16s, in line with the Catalan rule that under-16s can only attend live shows with a parent or guardian. Check the age on each event. The nearest metro stations for this part of Poblenou are Marina (L1) and Bogatell (L4), the ones Razzmatazz gives. With early starts, the metro may still be running when you leave: until midnight from Sunday to Thursday, 2am on Fridays and all night on Saturdays. Ask us on WhatsApp if you want a plan for the whole night.
