Barcelona Bars for Drinks and Dancing: Gràcia, El Born, Eixample

· Updated:

Barcelona's bars for drinks and dancing are spread across a few neighbourhoods: cocktail bars in El Born and along Carrer de Muntaner, small DJ bars in Gràcia, and bars with a dance floor around Plaça Reial and Carrer dels Escudellers. Music bars can stay open until 02:30, or 03:00 on Fridays, Saturdays and nights before holidays (Order INT/358/2011); after that the night moves to a club. Bars aren't our venue pages, so here we only name places with a recent source, checked on 21 October 2026.

El Born: cocktails before the club

El Born has the city's densest cluster of cocktail bars. Time Out's guide to the area's bars includes Paradiso, which you enter through the wooden fridge door of a pastrami bar, Dr. Stravinsky with its infusions, Marlowe, the Punch Room inside The Barcelona EDITION hotel, with billiards, and Bar Mudanzas, which opens at 18:00, earlier than most cocktail bars. In The World's 50 Best Bars 2026 Paradiso came 17th, Time Out reported on 9 October 2026. These are places to talk and drink well, not to dance; for dancing nearby, Magic Rock Club on Passeig de Picasso has been a rock bar and club since 1972.

Eixample: Muntaner, Sips and the Gaixample

Sips, at Carrer de Muntaner 108, was 16th in The World's 50 Best Bars 2026, one place above Paradiso. A few blocks down the same street is the heart of the Gaixample: Punto BCN, at Muntaner 65, is an LGBTQ+ bar that hands out invitations for Arena Experience and Safari, and Fever Barcelona, at Muntaner 69, is a bar open from 18:00 to 03:00, according to its bio. Priscilla Café and La Carrà belong to the same group as Believe, the drag club on Carrer de Balmes. From there, Arena Experience and Believe are the natural next stop.

Gràcia: small bars with music

Gràcia is for sitting outside and moving between small bars rather than for big nights out. Time Out's guide to the neighbourhood (August 2025) picks L'Entresòl, a cocktail bar with a resident DJ, Sol de Nit, open all day with good music in the evening, and Elephanta, a gin bar with a weekday happy hour. There are no big clubs in Gràcia. Almodobar, on Carrer d'en Grassot, is a neighbourhood club with a dance floor and karaoke upstairs that Time Out still listed in October 2026, but its Instagram has barely moved since January, so ask us before you go.

Plaça Reial and Escudellers: drinks with a dance floor

If you want to dance without paying a club entry, the old town is the place. Ocaña, on Plaça Reial, is a restaurant and cocktail bar that advertises a DJ every day of the year. Two streets away, Marula Café, at Carrer dels Escudellers 49, is a live music venue and dance club with funk, soul, afrobeat and Latin music, open every day; its website says entry is free until full on some nights, and its Thursday jam starts at 22:30. Jamboree, on the same square as Ocaña, has live jazz first and then a club.

Sants and Plaça d'Espanya

We found no bar in Sants or around Plaça d'Espanya with a 2026 source that we could recommend for a night out, so we won't invent one. What the area does have is music venues: Sala Taro, at Carrer de Rossend Arús 9 in Sants, programmes electronic, punk, indie and Latin nights, and up the hill, inside the Poble Espanyol, INPUT and Upload are open all year (Metro Espanya, L1 and L3).

How late, and how old

Under Order INT/358/2011, a music bar can open from 12:00 to 02:30 and an ordinary bar from 06:00 to 02:30, with 30 extra minutes on Fridays, Saturdays and nights before holidays; from 1 June to 15 September and over Christmas they get another 30 minutes. Clubs can go on until 05:00 or 06:00, which is why the night usually moves at around 02:30. Under-16s cannot enter music bars in Catalonia (Decree 112/2010, art. 53). Our closing times guide has the full rule, and the zones guide shows which club is closest to each bar area.
